Four Things (and sunrays)

4. Catie decided yesterday she wants to be Wonder Woman for Halloween. We have discussed, shopped for, and planned Halloween costumes since, like, mid-July. Elisabeth chose to be Tangled months ago. Same for Sam and IronMan. Catie wasn’t sure if she even would dress up or if she would wear something from a past year. Now, she’s completely enthralled with finding a Wonder Woman costume. On October 30. Do I search the greater Houston area for an age-appropriate costume, ensuring she has a fun, fantasy-like Halloween? Or do I tell her “Better luck next year, kiddo. Maybe this will teach you to answer me the 4,000 times I ask you if you need a Halloween costume?”

3. Tomorrow is a crazy day. I’m helping host a Mom’s Social at the twins’ school and got the insane idea we should give out Mom’s Survival Kits for Halloween. Plus lots of cute, healthy, fall-ish baked goods. Plus fun decorations. At the time of this writing, none of these are ready yet. Then Catie’s school is hosting a Fun Run, and I’ll go to watch her and cheer her on. Then our neighborhood Halloween party, which is always so much fun…and so much work. Then trick-or-treating with four small children (and their various issues). By the time I collapse into bed after all that celebrating, I’ll wish for a culture that values a quiet Reformation Celebration with time to focus on Luther’s Catechism. No, I’m not kidding.

2. Nate is my best friend. We run errands together, run together, laugh together, he keeps me accountable to lay on his floor and giggle and nap with him. I keep him accountable to not walk around with poop in his pants and eat a few veggies a day. Our relationship will change when he goes to school and meets real best friends, but right now? So fun.

1. It’s 43 degrees here, and I’ve brought out last year’s yoga pants. All six black pairs are now a charcoal gray color from over-washing. All four gray pairs are a pink color from over-washing with pink clothes. In better news, I’ve also unpacked the kids’ hand-me-downs, and each of them could clothe a small country from their closets.

That’s all. Maybe the happiness of these sun rays bring joy to your otherwise stressful Halloween.
