I had huge plans for bestoftimes today. Dozens and dozens of vacation photos. Stories. A Hergenrader Family Vacation Remembrance EXTRAVAGANZA.

Insights on how our family vacation refreshed us and brought us closer.
Instead I present to you a single picture of our UNrefreshed family.
I snapped this picture of exhausted Sam right before we left on our trip. Oh, how we all needed a break.
Yes, we had our break.
We were infused with energy and enthusiasm.
Yet, this picture describes our family now. Upon our return.
At the end of the trip, Nate got a freaky virus that had one symptom: a really high fever.
On Saturday Ellie came down with the same virus. By Sunday the thermometer read 107. No, that’s not the tempature here in Texas, that was the consistent reading of Ellie’s body.
Even after a healthy (ha!) dose of Tylenol.
So M cocooned her in blankets and headed to the ER. They gave her ibuprofen and her fever went down to 104.
And then, freaky virus that it is, her fever disappeared.
M. spent the next hour trying to leave the ER, while they asked him to sign his life away via medical waivers.
But he needed to get home to get Ellie in bed.
And help with the other two kids who looked rundown and virus-prone.
And that’s the story of how we’re doing…
…omitting the relaxing vacation in the middle.
