The Past Meets the Present

For me, this picture erupts so many emotions.

This is my 2011 family…
…standing on the porch my 1980-era family built.
The porch looks a bit different. My 1980’s family had added screens to the sides. There was only one exit from the house. That window (that led to my childhood bedroom and that I had open all summer, every summer) was old with peeling paint.
But it’s basically the same porch. A porch I think about often. One I love to remember.
My childhood home is for sale, and my 2011 family visited it. It was so strange to see my four kids walking around the house where I lived for 17 years. Strange, good, because the family who bought it from my parents had loved this old house and taken such good care of it. The house is very nice, very ecclectic.
But also strange because the house looked so different than it does in my memories. Everything was so new.
Apparently while I was off at college, off meeting M, off getting married and working and having all these babies…this old porch stayed there. But had a life of its own.
Which is good. Especially so I could have this picture, of my life the past 15 or so years meeting my old life.
On this beautiful back porch.
