Y’all.
I’m so excited to tell you that our family did it! We made the chaotic trek down to Ellington Field with the thousands of other science buffs to see Endeavor.
Yes, there was gridlock and crowds and heat and lots of walking. BUT there was also a space shuttle on an airplane, and so many families as excited as we were, and beautiful displays of patriotic pride. And THEN the SPACE SHUTTLE FLEW OVER OUR HOUSE THIS MORNING! AND WE SAW IT! I have goose bumps even writing this because the whole experience was just so much fun. Well, it was fun for M and me. To get the kids’ reactions, I asked them. And I am reporting their reactions (pretty much verbatim) here.
#4 Catie: “I think it’s neat our family drove all the way down here. Even though there was so much traffic. And kids don’t really care about stuff like space ships. But I like that Daddy took off work early. And mommy let us watch a movie on the way home. Oh, and I liked getting to drink Spite with dinner.”
#3 Sam: “How come we didn’t ride in the space ship? Is the moon just pretend? Why aren’t there any cups for the water? Are all these people space guys? Do you think we can ride in the space ship now? Is it time for dinner?”
#2 Elisabeth: “I cried so much because I was sweaty. And thirsty. And hungry. I like the part when Mommy carried me.”
#1Nate: “Goooogggggyyyyy! Hoollllddddd MEEEEEEE!”
Goodbye, Endeavor. It was exciting.
