Dear Elisabeth…
Raise your hand if you’re in Kindergarten!
That’s something that you would say. You love to play school, and you love to ask our family to “raise your hand if….”
You also love to know what’s expected of you and to know what you need to do to be like a grown-up.
You’re already so grown up in so many ways, sweetheart. You enjoy quiet more than chaos. You crave “dates” with your Daddy and with me. You care so much about doing the right thing.
Elisabeth, did you know that you’re the only Elisabeth Marie Hergenrader in the world? Just being yourself is the right thing. Every time.
It was such a fun summer, wasn’t it? You saw your first big-kid movie (Brave) on a date with Daddy. You got three stitches. You really learned how to write your name. On our family vacation, you were away from home for three weeks (and got really homesick). Throughout all of that, in your own quiet way, you learned to cope. You reached out to your siblings (or Daddy and me) when you needed to. A lot of times you talked to Jesus about getting the bad guys out of your head or wanting to get back to your owl bed.
Your beautiful faith is so special, Elisabeth. Like you, it’s quiet, but it sure is strong. I love to listen to you sing Jesus songs, pray, and tell us about Jesus’ love.
I think you’ll learn more of all that in Kindergarten.
Raise your hand if you’re ready for THAT!
I sure do love you.
Mommy
