Fourteen Years…The Age of Excitement!

So, big news! Today is our fourteenth wedding anniversary.
In those years we’ve been through about two boats, four dogs, fifteen cars, more computers/iPhones/laptops than I can count, three houses, and four kids. Not that we’re through with the kids YET, but you know what I mean.
When I think about all those addresses and pets and fun times, it seems like our married life could be divided into three Eras. Give or take a few years or months or whatever (since fourteen isn’t divisible by three). Like I’ve said, I’m a firm believer in fuzzy math.
First, there was the Age of Anticipation! (1998-2002)
Buying our first house! Plaid furniture! Graduate school for both of us (and M studying so hard for an MBA, he fell asleep)! First published book! Dogs that we adored like children! European trips! Louisiana trips! Work! Fun! So much anticipation for the rest of our lives!

Second, the Age of Enlightenment! (2002-2008)
A baby! Twins! No sleep! Diapers and tummy viruses (and a very vivid memory of both of us puking while changing twin tummy-virus diapers!), backaches from holding kids! heartaches from letting go of their hands! trips to Nebraska and Kansas! A minivan! Career changes and black pantyhose (really, Tina?)…I’m blaming THAT bad fashion choice on the fatigue

Third, the Age of Settling In! (2008-2012)
A forever-home! Another baby! Another new career! More books published! Soccer, gymnastics, Girl Scouts, ballet, homework, and parent-teacher conferences! Kindergarten (x3)! Ikea Bed Hacks! Training wheels! Summers at the cabin! Sleepovers! Church heartaches! Fun family adventures (ALL THE TIME)! Watching our kids (and each other) bloom and grow!

Next…I don’t even know what God has store for us. But I’m so happy we’ll be together for it. I can’t imagine doing all this with anyone but you. You are my favorite, M.
