Of course I’ll never forget the day we had twins.
With these twins came so many days that I’ll never forget.
And so many days I have forgot…because I’ve been so busy marveling at those twins.
One day, when the twins were about six months old, they were in rare silly form. They had recently discovered each other and were alternately hitting one another or marveling at the other baby that looked so familiar. Both were learning to scoot and on this day they couldn’t get enough of laughing together. M and I saw a glimpse of how much fun twins might be.
One day they turned one year old (a few days later M and I left on a vacation to recover from that crazy year.) They ate cake and cried about the gooey frosting all over themselves, and licked the frosting off each other and laughed some more.

One day they became friends. Was it on this day, when I found them giggling together on the couch, that they discovered how much they liked each other? Was this when Twin Mode was born–the phrase M and I use to refer to Sam and Elisabeth when they’re in their own worlds? I’m not sure, but the complete compatibility of two of your children is such a fun blessing.

One day, shortly after they learned to walk, they got the giggles. Millions of times they got the giggles, but here’s a day I remember. Elisabeth (Ellie back then) encouraging Sam to walk and Sam giggling too hard to try.

One day we decided Sam and Elisabeth needed to potty someplace other than the diapers that were a major item on our monthly budget. Oh, the silliness this introduced to our chaotic household. Me chasing them around to change their wet pants. Them shrieking and running away. And laughing.

One day, about a week shy of their fifth birthday, M had a late meeting. It had been a long day, Nate was feeling grumpy, and I was tired. Blissfully, Sam and Elisabeth disappeared upstairs to entertain themselves. For hours. As Catie helped me make dinner, we heard giggling from upstairs. And then they came downstairs to surprise me. And surprise me they did. Sam had dressed up like Elisabeth. He’s never done this before…and seeing that familiar face in a dress that Elisabeth wears almost every day blew my mind.
And then I got the giggles, and I laughed and laughed and laughed. So did Catie and Nate and the twins. Which, of course, prompted them to do the same thing five zillion more times. And that was so funny that I took five zillion pictures.
Which I’ll post soon.
