A Walk on the Beach…Nate

Actually, I didn’t go for a walk on the beach with Nate. The above picture of the swimming pool (overlooking the beach) is as close as Nate got to the Gulf. But that seemed okay to him. Nate’s daily goals are to eat sugar and be with his ‘Goggy’ (Daddy), so long strolls on the beach with his mommy are not his priority yet. Plus it was a little cold down there and the only thing Nate hates worse that NOT being with Goggy and NOT eating sugar is being cold.

While his older siblings played in the pool, Nate hovered by the edge. He is, by far, the most cautious of the kids (have I ever mentioned he walked SIX MONTHS later than the others? Ok. Wasn’t sure). Even though he splashes like a madman in his bath, the swimming pool freaked him out. He spent most of his pool time standing and staring (see above picture).

He never smiled at the swimming pool that day. He never really got into the water either, even though his brother and sisters ran and played in circles around him. When I think ahead to summer, and the fact we spend most every afternoon in the pool, I wonder how this will work out. When Sam was this age, and we had just moved into this house, he LOVED the pool. Specifically he loved trying to sit on the bottom of the pool. Thank the Lord that Elisabeth liked to play safely on the steps or we may be less one twin today.
Now that the big kids are safe swimmers, Nate and I will have a summer hanging out on the steps, watching the fun, blowing bubbles, and chatting.
I can’t wait.
