I actually took this picture last weekend…when the temperature dipped into the 40s and a morning fire was appropriate. That is, until the Texas sun came out. By noon we had all shed our sweatshirts. Same temperature cycle this week. Today’s high in Houston? 90 degrees.

To further illustrate the point that Texas is hot, hot, hot, I have this picture.
Our kids are so thin-blooded, so used to the burning sun, they really can’t stand the cold. Case in point: on a chilly morning, it’s not enough for Catie to sit NEAR the fire.
No, this little Southerner (and her brothers and sister a few moments after this picture) must sit right next to it, almost inside the fireplace. And that’s still not enough. They have to push up their sleeves and pants more maximum heat exposure.
They sit like this until the fire feels just like the burning sun that they’re used to, just like the sunburns they’re comfortable with.
And then, these warm-blooded creatures are finally cozy.
