Fall and Flight of the Butterfly

Fall weather (sweater weather, as the big kids call it…sock weather for Nate who’s amazed by these new additions to his toes) has finally arrived.

With the cooler temperatures, Houston has butterflies! Tens of thousands of monarchs migrated through the area on their trek to Mexico this week.
Catie caught this wounded one in our backyard. We tried to nurse it back to health, as we have with countless insects, but Aunt Katie’s watermelon didn’t do the trick.
And, I’m guessing that three kids manhandling it and trying to “teach it to fly” didn’t help the poor butterfly’s odds of survival.
Here’s to a mild fall with lots more hours outside!
Have a good weekend.
