Here’s one of the 10 million pictures you claimed that I took of you on the first day of second grade. I loved walking you into your classroom. You tackled that morning just like you do everything: observant, anxious, and enthusiastic.
Catie, that’s how you’ve been since the day you were born. You are a lot like me. And we sure do love to tackle an adventure together, don’t we?
I can’t think of a time that shows that more than our family trip to the cabin. You and I spent the weeks before creating calendars and packing charts. We carefully packed the suitcases and the van. We brainstormed all the fun we would have in Nebraska.
And you sure did have fun! Daddy and I watched as you fully experienced every part of the cabin–tubing, meeting friends, water skiing, catching hundreds of toads. You were at your creative, enthusiastic best. This trip, more than any other, showed your uncontainable joy for life. We loved watching you be a kid.
You told me that this has been the best summer of your life. It was the best summer of mine, too, LoveBug. Even with my sickness, the fights between you and your your siblings, and the heat, I loved all the time we had to be a family, to enjoy the adventure of life together.
Second grade will be an adventure, too. I know you’re nervous for this year, but there are so many exciting challenges waiting for you…a fun new teacher, more difficult books to read, best friends to meet.
Don’t worry, honey. You are the most caring, joyful, excited kid I’ve ever met. Remember who you are. Remember how fun it is to do something will all of your heart. I really think this year could also be the best school year of your life.
I love you,
Mommy
