About two years ago, our family attended a good friend’s birthday party. His theme was Husker Football and the party favor was a CD of Husker Football-Pump-Up-Type Songs. It included the Nebraska Football school song.
But, as it turns out, there just aren’t too many Husker-Pride songs.
So the parents of the birthday boy filled the CD with other songs.
“The Eyes of Texas,” and “If You’re Gonna Play in Texas, You Gotta Have a Fiddle in the Band,” and “Safety Dance.”
Actually, I’m not sure what any of those songs have to do with Nebraska Football, but they were a welcome switch in our minivan’s CD player from The Wiggles and 101 Bible Songs (sung in the key of High C.)
Anyway, this giveaway CD eventually became more than a welcome change. The Texas songs inspired their own CD, a mix I made for the kids that includes “Luckenback, Texas”, “God Bless Texas”, “South Texas Girl”, and “Galveston.”
AND some of those songs have since inspired their OWN fan CDs.
But back to that Nebraska Football CD. It has inspired a whole new love for the Hergenrader Family.
Queen.
The kids’ absolute favorite song right now is “WE WILL ROCK YOU!” complete with car dancing and little fists drumming the sides of their seats.
And Sam yelling…
“We will ROCK YOU in your TUMMY!”
