(spring) Break from Good Judgement

We all took a little break this week.

Apparently I took a little break from good decisions.
If you work for Child Protective Services, please remember that no children were injured…and they all actually enjoyed yesterday afternoon.
It all started when the twins wanted to play on the swing set…but Nate did not want me to put him down. At all. Not even for a second to hand up his swing. Or to wipe the mud and leaves off the the swingset.
And since everything outside was covered with a goopy layer of leaves and water and mud and muck, I couldn’t set him down anywhere.
Which led to my brilliant plan.
I fetched the clothes basket from inside, secured it the “treehouse” in front of the fun plastic tic-tac-toe board, filled it with toys.
And then added Nate.
He loved it. From his perch on top of the swing set, he could watch Sam and Ellie playing their latest game, “Bad guys! Angels!” He could watch the birds perching in the trees above him. He could see his mommy cleaning off the swingset. Suddenly he was the tallest kid around. He laughed and laughed. And played tic-tac-toe. And laughed even more.
I wish I could tell that as soon as I was done wiping off the muck, I retrieved him. But he was having too much fun from his bird’s eye perch.
Watching the twins entertain themselves yelling, “Hey! Bad guy! Watch out! There’s an angel!”
For almost an hour.
This may be a lapse in judgement I need to make again very soon.
