Okay, not an actual Popsicle. This is a frozen pop from our Christmas present, the ZUKO. So, this is really pure frozen pomegranate juice. But still.
We’ve been big sticklers foe food “rules” with our other kids. Catie didn’t start rice cereal until 6 months. To the day. We followed all the rules…veggies first, one at a time to test for allergies…then fruits…again, one at a time. And then start over with the first one. All while breastfeeding so the baby didn’t get constipated. And never giving them finger foods until they could crawl with their bellies off the ground.
Geesh!
Four kids later, after witnessing days they eat frozen waffles for breakfast, French fries for lunch, and refried beans for dinner, and still run circles around us… and don’t catch the cold M. and I have–even when they do things like lick the floor, we’ve realized food may not be as important as we had thought.
But I digress.
What we’ve learned is that food may not be the best area for us to try and control our kids’ lives. For us, it’s so a battle not worth fighting. Or attaching that much importance to. M. and I eat pretty healthy (well, except November through January). Hopefully our kids are picking up our habits of eating more veggies than chocolate. Or at least trying to.
All this explanation to justify Nate and his pop. And to say that his teeth seem to be killing him. If some frozen pomegranate juice helps, even though we haven’t officially introduced all the major fruits in those little jars, even though he hasn’t had all the veggies, then he should go for it.
Plus. It’s so much fun to see his wide eyes when he tastes these fun foods for the first time.
And that’s coming from an EX food-rule-follower.
