Epiphany has passed, and we’re ready to take down the Christmas deco. I didn’t want to officially put away Christmas until I remembered this sweet memory. Our Christmas Eve tradition is church, snacks by the fire (complete with Diet Sprite in fancy cups), the Christmas story, and one present each. It’s the highlight of Christmas for the kids.

Two adjustments I might make for next year: tamales from our local BerryHill for dinner. Because tamales on Christmas Eve are a south Texas tradition. And we only go to BerryHill four times a week now. Currently we eat “snack foods” on Christmas Eve, which is really just junk food. If there’s one thing we don’t need during the holidays is more junk food. Did I mention the fudge M and I eat for breakfast? And the candy cane Hershey kisses?
Yeah. Tamales are health food compared to our usual holiday eating.
Also, a friend gave me this great idea: pjs for the one gift the kids open. Thirty years from now when they come home for Christmas, it’s still a good gift. And, the most genius part of the idea, they are wearing matching, cute pjs for the Christmas pics the next morning. Perfect.
Goodbye, Christmas 2010. You were one of my favorites.
