Catie’s sixth birthday was a bit anticlimactic this year. The new baby and new school (and the new bus ride!) really took the focus off the countdown we’ve had in past years (only two more months until my birthday!). Really it’s the curse of August and September birthday kids throughout history. There’s nothing more significant than the first day of school. And when you’re meeting all new friends, it’s hard to tell them, “It’s my birthday in four days!” What other reaction can they have except, “I don’t even know you’re name, I can’t handle your birthday too.”
And I’m not just saying that to remind everyone about my own beginning-of-the-year birthday in only three days.
We tried to make Catie’s actual birthday special by planning a family day. She chose Galveston, where the kids spent hours on their very favorite activity of burying M. in the sand.
And eating lots of snacks.
And the twins had a blast in the waves.
And I took 984,502,775 pictures of it all. Fun was had by all.
And she was able to write all about it in her “Treasure Book” the next day at school.
And bring cupcakes to twenty-two other kids.
Who now know her name.
