This picture represents everything right about our weekend. We visited Galveston (lots more pictures coming) for the long weekend. It was Mardi Gras, which meant lots of crowds and craziness–things that would usually make us think twice before exposing our family to the chaos. Or, before exposing the chaos to our family.

But this weekend was different. Thanks for the generosity of friends, we had the confidence to brave it all. As I’m writing this Bible study, I’m trying to learn how God wants us to bless others–share with others, serve others, and live a more generous life.
Friends of ours offered their vacation home on the East End of Galveston, close to the parades and crowds. The condo was gorgeous with a breathtaking view of the Gulf and island. Usually we stay on the west end of the island, where I grew up and where there are few crowds and restaurants. Much more rugged out there. The location of this condo encouraged us to get out and fully experience Galveston. What a blessing.
More friends invited us to their Mardi Gras party. These dear friends live right on the Mardi Gras parade route. Oh. My. Goodness. What a blessing! Instead of hiding away in their beautiful house, smack dab in the middle of the action, they opened it up to us. Never would M and I have braved 25th street if they hadn’t asked us. Turns out the whole experience was so enriching for our kids. The crowds were friendly and fun. The floats were spectacular. And, oh, the beads! Hundreds of beads. When the night was over, and our kids began to argue over who got which beads, M and I were able to remind them how blessed we were with other’s generosity. And encourage them to also bless others.
Finally, the Wards came to Galveston to celebrate Mardi Gras with us on Sunday. They braved the sun and crowds and erratic Galveston parade schedule to be part of the madness. What a blessing to laugh and soak it all in with some of our favorite people.
Now our challenge is to keep blessing other people with the same spirit of sharing and giving.
Laissez les bons temps rouler!
