I snapped this picture yesterday while we were (obviously) at the park.
Typical, Elisabeth sat close to me and played more by herself while the gangs of the other kids built (and destroyed) sand castles a few feet away. Before we left, she ran over and joined them and was awarded Best Sand Toy Cleaner-Upper by another mom. She beamed in the spotlight of extra attention, but she had also relished the quiet time to inspect the sand.
She was happy to go against the grain of the group; she was also so happy to join them.
While I supervised the kids, bunches of other thoughts were battling in my mind. We’re still making decisions about our future and our kids’ education. God is still showing us so much about who our kids are, how they learn, what works for them, and what absolutely won’t.
Heck, He is still showing me so much about who I am, how I learn, what works for me, and what absolutely will not.
In the midst of these big decisions, I’m asking Him to show me when the crowd is right…
…and when I just need to go against the grain.
But mostly, I’m just asking Him to help not screw up this parenting thing too much.
