And the Greatest of These…

The Hergenrader Thanksgiving was made complete by…
1. travel. We had never been to San Antonio en masse before. It didn’t disappoint. Very touristy…which, if you’re a tourist, is refreshing.
2. turkey. It was dodgy there for a while since the restaurant we went to for lunch, Republic of Texas, was REALLY good at celebrating Texas history, but not so good at celebrating the pilgrims. BUT thanks to an all-you-can-eat buffet that night, our whole clan feasted on turkey and many, many carbs.
3. Most of all, our holiday was made complete by family.
Check out this picture. Where else are my kids going to find even more kids with the same facial features? I feel like this picture is a study in genetics. And how those genetics play out in how much our girls love to mother any child younger than three years old. Or how our boys really like Husker jerseys. Something tells me these traits won’t change with time.

Back to San Antonio being touristy (and that being a good thing), the kids loved Sea World. I expected to feel all Free-Willy about the orcas swimming in pools the size of bathtubs, but it was all so pretty, and the kids were all so impressed by it that I forgot to hum that Michael Jackson song. Elisabeth really loved the carousal, which is actually just like the one in our Houston mall, but I totally understand how everything is more fun on vacation.

Back to the cousins, our family’s favorite part of this trip, another genetic quality seems to be picture-taking skillz. I mean, really, girls? Really with the nice smiles and great eye contact with the camera? And the boys? BOYS?! LOOK AT THE CAMERA! BOYS!! There. It’s almost like you were on vacation with us. Because there was lots of picture-taking…and just as much boy calling.

Oh! And the weather! Sunshine! Thank You, Lord, for lots of time outside! It never rained, but the clouds you see in this picture made the Sea World day so nice. Because looking around at all Sea World’s concrete and noticing it’s in the desert, I’m guessing the place can get pretty warm. Here’s Catie on another Sesame Street ride, where we spent a big chunk of the day.

Our Sea World highlight was when none of the whales ate their trainers. Another highlight was petting the dolphins, which Free Willy or not, was pretty amazing.

I want to report the Alamo was the best part of the trip because I’m a Texan and taught throughout my education the Alamo is the most important place in the entire world. BUT the historical significance of this battle site is overshadowed by this picture. Nate trying to inspect a cannon and his beautiful cousin, Emmy, stepping in for a little hug.
Love.

So, our Thanksgiving was complete with all the fun touristy travel.
But the greatest of these was the cousin love.

  1. Cute pics! Happy to know there was another kid roaming around San Antonio this past week wearing the EXACT same outfit Jack had on (yup, I guess every kid of a UNL grad needs to have that jersey, huh?)
