Which doesn’t surprise me. To be a Hergenrader Kid means to be moving. Constantly.
Watching TV? Catie is hopping on one foot across the living room. Eating dinner? Sam is rocking, Ellie is doing some rendition of The Sprinkler in her chair, and Catie is, again, hopping around.
Which brings up a question I have for moms out there. Really, kids, with the hopping on one foot? Monday I was trying to get all three kids out of the gymnastics place that had the brilliant idea to provide one door for the hundred kids leaving and and other 100 arriving for their classes at 5:30. It seemed like our crew was moving slower than usual. Was it me–seven months pregnant and attempting to push through the ninety degree heat? The two-year-old twins who wear their flip-flops between toes three and four (ouch)? No. It was Catie–navigating the crowd (wait for it) while hopping on one foot.
Aghghghghhhh!
I’ve heard (not from any experts, but other moms over wine, so who knows about the validity) that your kids’ quirks become their strengths. If constant movement and endless energy is my kids’ quirk than, folks, our kids are destined for some career like Olympic Speed Skater.
Or, at least, they’ll totally impress by doing The Sprinkler like no one else.
On one foot.
