Even though Sam and Elisabeth are growing more and more independent every day, they are still twins, and their twin-dom affects almost every part of their personalities. Every part of their lives.

Their twin-dom often determines their failures…their accomplishments…. And as always with twins, those seem to be one in the same.
The proof is in this picture. This is the official post to announce that even though Sam isn’t even four and a half years old, he’s riding his bike without training wheels.
Why not a picture, then, of Sam zooming around on two wheels?
Because he’s a twin. So, in this family, his precocious bike riding is only half of the story.
His bike-riding success is Elisabeth’s bike-riding failure.
Just like when Elisabeth sat up first, leaving Sam lying on his belly, belly-aching that his belly muscles couldn’t hold him up yet.
Just like when Elisabeth crawled first, leaving Sam scooting like a wounded soldier, wounded pride evidenced in his tears.
Just like when Sam got to go the doctor last month while Elisabeth stayed behind. All that attention had her fake coughing and imagining stomach cramps.
Even though our twins aren’t overly competitive, this picture shows the unique dynamic of every pair since Jacob and Esau. Sam, back from his celebratory circle around the cul de sac, jumping off his bike to console his crying twin.
And this dynamic of Who Did It First isn’t likely to stop anytime soon.
On Sam’s second day of bike-riding, he fell off in a pretty nasty accident.
And now…guess who has the first loose tooth?
