Of all the things I’ve been waiting for, my late thirties was not one of them. I know…birthdays are better than the alternative and you’re only as young as you feel.
But I feel really old. Usually rolling around on the floor with the kids makes me feel young. Except when the not-sleeping-more-than-two-hour stretches and all that rolling around on the floor with the kids makes me feel old. My hope is that this deep-in-my-bones tiredness is still post-partum fatigue that will pass. Or is this just what thirty-six feels like?
In better news, the other things I WAS waiting for have all happened: my next book will be in bookstores on June 1. My hair has finally grown enough that I look less like an ’80s rocker and more like a (late) thirty something. In this picture, you can still see the Joan Jett-ishness of it poking out of the ponytail. But I thought that this shot nicely completes our beach setting pictures for this week.
Another thing I was waiting for–Nate, our fourth child, is here. He’s so fun…even when his eating habits and need for me on the floor with him make me feel old.
By the way, since this is September in Houston, and more hurricanes hit this week than any other during the calendar year, I’m still waiting for the rain to pass.
