As a tribute to the calming, mighty, constant, loud, rushing tide, I’ll recap our trip to Galveston using that theme. The highlights are high tide, and the lowlights you guessed it, low tide….
High Tide was…
…the sand and sea! Nothing entertains kids like sand and water and buckets. Hours, friends, HOURS.
…the food! Oh, Galveston, oh Galveston, how I love your sandy beaches and your RESTAURANTS. Shrimp and Stuff, Sunflower Bakery, The Original, McAlisters…mmm.
…the friends! Besides my parents being in town, we also saw lots of familiar and loved faces at St. Johns on Sunday morning. Beautiful.
…See the Sea! In the words of George Strait, “from my front porch you can see the sea.” The house had a beautiful view. M and I spent any free second from washing kids, clothes, and more kids to watch the crashing waves. So powerful.
…family togetherness! We did it all…sleeping bags on the deck, hot cocoa while we recapped our day, board games, books, running on the beach. It was so cozy to have my kids right on top of me all weekend.
Low Tide was…
…the fog! Read here about the crazy dense fog on the island for much of the weekend. It dampened our visibility (aka see the sea) but not our spirits
…the bumps and bruises! Ellie fell out of her bunk bed and now looks like an abused child. She also stepped on a shell. Sam, being the empathetic twin he is, IMAGINED he stepped on a shell. Ironically that caused more drama than Ellie’s actual cut.
…family togetherness! By Monday night, the kids had just about had it with all of us together ALL THE TIME. And M and I were getting a bit sarcastic with them about how many times we have to ask to PUT ON YOUR SHOES!
