Here’s my twin story: Ellie had a doctor’s appointment this morning. This was wonderful news for her. Even though she hated the doctor with every fiber of her being for the first three years of her life, the three-and-a-half-year-old Ellie totally embraces mommy time. And if a doctor’s visit is the way to get it, well, she won’t complain about a little exam.
This left Sam alone at school.
For the first time.
Not really alone, of course. According to reports, Sam is Mr. Personality at school and has lots of friends to play, RESCUE 911 with on the the playground. He has the sweetest, most nurturing teacher, who shared this story with me when I dropped El off after her appointment.
Mid-morning without Ellie, and suddenly Sam’s eyes filled with tears.
“What’s wrong?” his teacher asked.
“I just miss…” He started to cry. “…my hair gel.”
I’ve been using Bumble and Bumble wax in his hair every morning as the only product serious enough to tame his cowlicks. He LOVES it.
“Your hair gel is still there,” his teacher assured him. She even got a mirror to show him.
Even though we all know it wasn’t the hair gel he was missing, the sight of his reflection, nicely coifed with hair gel, made him smile.
And when he saw Ellie, and even got to accompany us to the Library to check out a book she’d missed while we were gone, he grinned the whole way.
They even held hands.
That kind of twin is better than a Bitty Baby twin any day.
Even when he doesn’t wear a matching velvet dress.
