Not only is our traditional trip a lot of fun for the whole family, but it kicks off the Christmas season. About the only way we can get the kids home from all the fun of camping is to remind them we’re putting up the Christmas decorations.
So, while the rest of America is out buying Black Friday, the Hergenraders are pulling out no end of kid-made popsicle-stick ornaments and blasting Christmas music.
This year the song Little Drummer Boy, which I often sing to Sam as I rock him to sleep, brought tears to my eyes. Lots and lots of tears that rolled down my cheeks.
Those tears were fueled by the precious memory of rocking Sam all those nights…and the sweet scene of our kids assembling the nativity scene…and the memorable words of the Christmas carol.
And, of course, the fatigue of camping with SEVEN kids.
Happy Almost-Advent!
