More Than You Ever Knew About Zerubbabel

Part of our time here at the lake has been spent indoors because, well, it’s really hot. And, even though our kids are Texans and can tolerate three-digit temps and am-I-standing-in-a-dryer humidity, they can’t tolerate that all the time.
Also, we weren’t close to church on Sunday, so we did our own Living Room Church. Oh, and Catie has been learning Bible stories and doing reading comprehension activities.
Together, this all means that some morning we spend transforming the cabin’s living room into the Hergenrader Theater. Here’s the stage for this week’s play, Zerubbabel Rebuilds the Temple.

Catie wrote the script; although there was quite a bit of her off-stage telling her siblings what to say. The play opened with Elisabeth exclaiming, “The Romans have destroyed the temple!”

Mass chaos ensued, including Sam and Nate pretending to be the destructive Romans. This was the end of Nate’s participation in the play. After doing an excellent job at destruction, he was banished to M’s lap, where he watched the rest of Zerubbabel unfold.

Catie was busy wearing the hat of writer, director, actress, line-prompter, and twin-mediator.

Here’s Sam, playing a Builder, rebuilding the temple. Never has he enjoyed a play more than when his job was to BANG THIS BOX REALLY LOUD!

And then Elisabeth, silently miming how building a temple might look. Ladies and gentlemen, the difference between boys and girls.

Catie, playing another role, as the king in the story. I love her regal face. And Elisabeth’s confusion about why she’s NOT A PRINCESS.

Celebrating the temple! Yea! Bows and curtain calls and cheering all around!

 Now! Let’s go outside!
