My Mom Friends: Ruth, Rebecca, Hannah, and Bathsheba

So, it’s Deadline Week around here again. I have four more Bible studies due to my editor on November 1. This means several things…

1) This is the only picture I’ve taken all week. Yes, it’s awkward of me. And even Nate, who barely knows a camera he hasn’t smiled at, is looking the wrong way. Oh, and speaking of looking at the camera, I seem to be studying our friend’s couch. I’m sorry, but this cringe-worthy picture is all I’ve got.
2)I’m talking way too much about Old Testament moms. This is good, when, after studying Proverbs 31, I feel like I could be a virtuous woman. This is bad when I become a nonstop fount of information about life in 1000 BC. Doesn’t everyone care what the Moabites believed about the afterlife?
3)Trying to make these Biblical moms real for real moms who will read this (did you get all that?) means these women become way too real for me. M. told me the other day, “I’ll be glad when you’re writing about New Testament moms and less law.” I think that means I’m a little testy during Deadline Week.
4) I’m seeing a lot more of my real (2010) friends. This week some of them are coming over to help me finish this deadline, mostly by holding Nate. The only downside to this is that I’m in my office researching Moabite beliefs about the afterlife and not talking with some of my favorite people.
5) So far this week both M. and I have not both showered on the same day. No time. For laundry either. Or cooking. Next week I’ll be a hausfrau for four days, just to catch up.
Which is, incidentally, just like the Proverbs 31 woman.
And Ruth.
Who was a moabite….

  1. I’m dying to come hold Nate but Ibby’s got another runny nose so I’m staying away. He always seems to do that right before your deadline. Sara is worried the kids won’t trick or treat because of your deadline (Catie suggested this to her last night – she told Sara you had a deadline and Mike had to hold Nate. LOL!). Rich and I assured her that we would make sure they got to trick or treat – we will take them – so let us know what time to pick them up. : )
