November: The Perfect Country Western Song

I have not been drunk, my mama has not been in prison (that I know of, at least), and I’m sure she has not been run over by a train. But as David Allen Cole said, all of these circumstances would make the perfect Country Western song.
I’ll tell you what. Our November has been the perfect Country Western song.
We’ve had the croup. We’ve had stressful business travel. We’ve had curb crashes. We’ve had colds. Good friends have died. Life has been too hectic to see other friends. My dad had open-heart surgery. The election drained us. Our dog is deaf, and no one wants to give us another one.
Y’all. We have been living a country western song.
But, thank the Lord, our lives haven’t been quite as gritty as a country-western song.
Which, really, is a good thing. We probably don’t need country-western grittiness in our lives right now.
Because when you really listen to the words of “Fancy,” it makes you value keeping your daughters under your own roof.
Or the fact your mama is, in fact, not in prison or drunk.
Here’s to a hip-hop-themed December.
Maybe we’ll go for jazz.
