After more than three weeks of traveling, we’re finally home.
Truly our little group of six (plus dog) saw it all…Katy to Leavenworth (for a quick dinner stop), to Cedar Creek, Nebraska (for the bulk of our trip), back to Leavenworth, and then BACK to Nebraska for M’s twentieth high school reunion (where we felt old when we stayed out too late but also young to catch up with so many friends).
So, the conclusion? Is there a reason that most people don’t take such extended holidays (a term I use loosely given the average age of our traveling companions)?
Yes. Two weeks away from home is refreshing. When we got into the third week, the kids were homesick and I had packed and repacked the minivan for the last time OF MY LIFE.
But that’s not to say that the whole trip didn’t provide lots of perspective, tons of fun family time, and memories by the van-full.
So, MegaTour of the Midwest was my favorite family trip yet.
And, yet, I’m SO GLAD to be home.
