Dear Sam…
Wow! Your first day of Kindergarden. You are so ready for this year, Sam. You have learned to write your name. And you have really learned who you are. Throughout this summer, you’ve gotten so much confidence. You’ve been so excited about new adventures, everything from learning new games on Daddy’s iPad to tying your shoes. You have grown to be such an eager learner.
Sam, how can I tell you how special you are? Really, Buddy, you are extraordinary. You learn best by talking to people, and you’re so good at it. Did you know that this summer lots of grown-ups told Daddy and me how good you are at conversations? Five-year-olds don’t usually talk to grown-ups for hours. It’s one of the special things that makes you who you are; it’s amazing to watch.
Since this was my favorite summer ever with you, it’s hard for me to think of just one special memory. But I think it would have to be the many “school” sessions we had to help get you ready for Kindergarten. Yes, you were good at asking questions to distract me from doing school…but once you sat down to do the worksheets, you were so good at them. When you would bring the math or matching sheets to me to check, and we would laugh about the pictures on the worksheets or do silly high fives together, I found myself sad that I wouldn’t be your teacher.
I know that she will love your enthusiasm, your silliness, your earnestness, and your eagerness to learn. Let’s hope she loves all your questions as much as Daddy and I do.
We also love you, Sam. Very much.
Mommy
