Sky High on the Third of July!

An eighteen-hour trip to reach the Land of Corn?
Our Odyssey was not fresh…but with road grime adorned.
Of course, we’re thankful for our trusty van
To get us out of Texas as fast as we can
“We’re finally here!” we honked on the horn
Now, where’s the lake around all this corn?

We love Nebraska, so full of corn!
But why are you SO, SO warm?
“Will it be in the seventies?” we foolishly wondered.
Now that we’re here it’s over one hundred
So we stand here and mourn
And fret, “will this field combust into popcorn?”

Hello, Nebraska where M was born!
And where Mom lived in a dorm
Now we return yearly for vacation
To visit the lake, friends, and blood relations
Such SUPER fun,so  are kids are never forlorn
Except when they must stop for a picture by corn
