Every year, during the last weekend in February or first weekend in March, the kids get in the pool. Because I have an adverse physical reaction to cold water (it makes me really cold), my personal pool season runs from Mothers Day until my birthday (early September).

The picture nicely captures the kids first dip of 2012, two weekends ago. Elisabeth shares my adverse physical reaction. So, even though she was happy to try on her swimwear and run around screaming with her siblings, she didn’t spend much actual time in the pool.
Sam played peek-a-boo with his towel…and the water. He was either completely submerged or standing on the side shrieking. This is a change from how he normally spends his summer…completely submerged all the time.
Catie invited two friends over, and then stood on the side, watched them swim, and asked them if they wanted her to jump in. For two hours.
Nate was his usual cautious self. He did dip a finger in, felt the freezing water, and backed away. He and I served as lifeguards, towel-getters, pool scrubbers, and toy clean-up crew.
The true picture of pool ownership also includes the heavy-duty spring cleaning we do every year. M pressure washing the sides.
Spring is in the air.
And the kids are in the pool.
