Sam and Ellie aren’t literally glueing themselves together in this picture.

But that’s only because they don’t have to. They’re never really that far apart.

The constant (constant!) proximity is just one of the billion little surprises about twins. Or maybe it’s only these twins.

They really do everything together.

Sometimes that makes me feel guilty–they didn’t ask to be a twin, and, yet, they have no choice but the same person next to them in the car, in bed, in rest time, in the bath, in school, in the swimming pool, and at every single meal and snack.

And now that we’re potty-training, the same person grunting and splashing on a neighboring potty.

But the deal is–they get along so darn well. As a kid I secretly wished for a twin, because, besides the pottying part, who wouldn’t want someone by their side for almost everything? Catie had that relationship with her imaginary friend, Carlos, when she was this age–Sam and Ellie have each other.

Of the countless blessings God has given us, watching our twins has been one of the most fun and rewarding. Because, even though I know their years of separate classes, dueling friendships, and sibling rivalry are coming thick and fast, watching them love and play and even bicker like an old married couple is so fun to witness.

Especially since they have a constant game of House going in which they are mommy and daddy and call each other “hon” constantly.

The sweetness of that is definitely worth all the strange glances we get at the grocery store.
