Last night was the twins’ Christmas program. After I read my post from yesterday, I realized that I must really be a stage mom. Instead of reporting how the actual dance went, I retold all the drama of the day. So, to recap, the girls did a beautiful job of tap dancing to “I’m So Glad I’m ME!” Catie grinned like a girl whose mother had told her to and Elisabeth ignored her tape mark and danced proudly (and a beat off) right in front of everyone. A good time was had by all.
To correct my error from yesterday, I’ll only tell you about the Christmas program and not at all about the drama of trying to get two four-year-olds in festive outfits at a time of night we’re usually getting ready for bed.
The program was wonderful. The message (and the program was clear evangelism about why Jesus’ birth is so important) was Freedom! As the older kids reviewed the history of sin and why we need a Savior, the twins led their class in announcing, “Please God! Give us freedom!” The whole school sang beautiful Christmas hymns. The preschoolers sang a rousing rendition of “Away in the Manger” that would have brought tears to they eyes of Richard Dawkins. Sam looked pretty sleepy through the whole thing, but to be fair, it was past his bedtime. Elisabeth was so proud in the front row, she was oblivious of anyone else. So oblivious that at one point the rest of the kids sat down. Elisabeth remaining standing, front and center. Of course Sam followed her lead until giggling from the audience and their teacher’s instructions got them to sit down.
But they were unfazed. Especially since the program was promptly followed by lemonade and cookies. The clear highlight for our two little singers.
And then we all went home and went to bed.
