Sweet Elisabeth…

You are the picture of the perfect First Grader: excited to learn, confident of what you know, determined to please your teacher, liked by your classmates, and enthusiastic about every single part of your day.

Your enthusiasm for the school day is fun to watch, Elisabeth. You’re dressed in your uniform before the sun is up, with the confidence your day will be fun. You start your homework on the drive home. At night you effusively tell us stories about your sweet teacher and funny classmates.

This is all fun for Daddy and I to watch. We like that you like First Grade. We like that you like learning. We like that you seem to be doing so well at it.

But just so you know, sweetie, you might not always like school. Sometimes you’re tired. Or sick of all the homework. Some days your friends don’t want to play with you or your teacher is crabby. Some days First Grade just isn’t as fun as you want it to be.

It’s okay to tell us about those days too. Even though people look at you and see you’re a perfect First Grader, doesn’t mean you have to be like that all the time. It’s okay if you don’t feel like smiling all day. Tell us about all those times too. We still think you’re awesome. We still love you so much.

Thanks for your enthusiasm, Elisabeth. When the rest of us are having bad days, your excitement for life turns them into good days. All of us love that about you. We want to do that for you too.

Keep rocking First Grade, kiddo!

Love,

Mommy

Elisabeth is incredibly calming to me. She is so steady and sure each and every morning. She doesn’t let her exploding water bottle or crazy Ms. Amanda whos crowding her cubby get her frazzled. I love that God made her so sure of who she is and that she is so secure of how much God loves her. That’s what makes her such a good friend, and someone Emily knows will empathize with her struggles and be excited with her in her triumphs. Emily is very blessed to have Elisabeth!!!
