Cooler weather has come to Houston and not a second too soon. It’s counterintuitive to drink Pumpkin Spice Lattes and attend Fall Parties, all while wearing sunscreen and swatting mosquitoes.

So! Fall brings another season to our household: Season of the Bins. Rubbermaid containers. Big storage totes we’ve stashed in our attic.
It all hit at the same time: Nate’s ready for 3-6 month clothes (hard to believe since I recall it was yesterday I gave birth to him), Sam is ready for new pants after wearing out the same four pairs of shorts, Catie grew about two feet last week and all her dresses are suddenly scandalously short, and Ellie is ready for some variety in her morning CLOTHESSSSSSS! expedition, and I’m finally out of my maternity clothes.
Because I’m a glutton for punishment, I asked M. to pull out all 589 bins of winter clothes for us. And, because my kids have my perchance for chaos, I let them pull all the clothes OUT of the bins. Which made our house into the hugest mess since last week when I had a deadline and stopped all sort of straightening activity.
But the pulling out was SO FUN. It’s like Christmas morning (which reminds me, maybe I should’ve been pulling out the Christmas decorations). Everyone tried on their new (hand-me-down) clothes. Everyone modeled them–except for Sam and Nate who sat on his bed and watched it all.
After an hour of pulling things out and strewing them, someone or another had to go potty or got fussy or hungry (might have been me), and we had to abandon the project.
And then this morning, it was like a Clothes Hangover. And the kids all wore their new clothes to school.
And I’m here, blogging instead of cleaning up the mess.
