CatiefirstdayofschoolDear Catie….

When you were younger and you didn’t understand something, it seemed harmless. Look at you trying to type! One day we will laugh about how hard this was for you. You hate to comb your hair. You’ll look back on pictures of this and cringe.

But now that you’re in Middle School, it feels like everything you do is who you are. Suddenly, you’re not just passing through different rest stops, you’re planting yourself forever.

This change amps up all my anxiety. We seem to have entered (in our mother/daughter relationship anyway) the season that slides right into you going to college. Keep your room organized so you can find what you need! Start your homework as soon as you come home! Don’t find your value in what others think of you! Be nice to your sister because she’ll be with you forever!

This anxiety, though, forgets that God is already forming an incredible girl in you–even without my lessons (maybe especially without my lessons).  He’s busy sculpting this incredible person, and I’m wringing my hands, frantic it’s all up to me.

This is who you’re already becoming: a bouncy, blonde fairy that little kids love to follow; a hard worker, who is determined to make As; a brave adventurer who runs head-first into every challenge.

Catie, you are the single most positive, happy, enthusiastic person I know. You’re always sure that the very best thing is about to happen. This spirit for adventure is completely you–and has always been you. The fact that you’re going to stay this way makes me both relax and rejoice

You make me so proud and I love you.

Mommy
